CITY GOVERNMENT

The city has what is called a Manager-Council form of government. Council members do not serve in a particular district, but are elected to serve the entire city. City elections seldom have party politics involved--this may be different from what you are used to. See the City Council website for more information on this topic

COUNTY GOVERNMENT

County government has limited responsibility within the city limits. Its responsibilities are defined by state government. Round Rock is located primarily in Williamson County, with just a small area in Travis County to the south along Interstate 35. Austin is located in Travis County.

For the non-resident, fire protection is provided by volunteer fire departments which have taxing authority. Water and sewer will be handled either through septic systems and wells on your property, or through a quasi-governmental entity called a "MUD", or municipal utility district, not affiliated with any city government. MUD responsibilities are defined by state law. The MUD is governed by a board elected by the residents served by the MUD. In some areas of the county, water and electrical may be provided by a neighboring city.

Williamson County provides police safety for city non-residents through the Sheriff's office, some human services, county road and bridge maintenance, and the County Court system. County Commissioners are elected by precinct and the elections are based on party affiliation.

  • Efficiencies start around $520 to 590.
  • One bedrooms are in the $590-$1500 range with most in the $590-$750 range.
  • One/den or 2/1 floor plans are $695-$1700 most average $700-$900.

  • Three bedrooms are $890 -$3800 - most will lease for $950-$1300/month.

Again price will depend on location and the apartment. Most new properties list their places for about $1 per sq. ft but they also tend to have more lease "specials" and discounts.

What is the average size of apartments in Round Rock, Cedar Park & Austin?

Apartment sizes vary. Most of the older properties have larger rooms but smaller kitchens, bathrooms and closets, whereas the newer properties tend to have smaller rooms but more windows and larger closets, kitchens and bathrooms.

  • One Bedroom - 600-650 sq ft is a "basic" (Kitchen, living area, bedroom and bathroom). in an Class "B" property (built in the early - mid 1980s) Most one bedrooms tend to be around 600-800 sq ft

  • In the newer Class "A" communities, the smallest 1/1 is usually around 630-690sf and the next larger plan is about 750-780sf.

  • One/den or 2/1 floor plans are usually in the 800-1000 sq ft range

  • 2 bedroom 2 baths are usually 900-1200 sq ft with 900sf being the typical Class B size. Class A communities typically have about 1000-1075sf in their smallest 2/2 and 1175+ in their larger ones.

  • 3 bedrooms are usually 1200-1600 sq ft

Square footage can be deceptive because some properties will "fudge" and include the patio in the sf quotes. Also, Townhomes and other split-levels include the square footage of the stairways so the square footage quoted is not necessarily the usable sf space.
